In a despatch dated June 9th Governor of Hong Kong has

submitted to the Colonial Office the question of treatment

of shares held by enemies in British China companies in

the event of reconstruction or a new issue of shares.

I shall be grateful if you will inform me by

telegraph whether the allotment of shares in recon-

structed company to enemy subjects who held shares in the original company is precluded by your telegram No. (736) Forum to Shanghai; as I have received application for a

for such an allotment.

11cense I presume that fer-such in that case liquidator

of the old company should dispose of enemy shares and the

proceeds should be placed to the enemy dividends account.

27 July 1916.
